EXETER CITY
(Mackay, Durrant, Hutchings) 3

CRYSTAL PALACE
(Kurz) 1

Half-time City 2 Palace 0.
Attendance 7,656, receipts £596.14s.4d.

Although Exeter City defeated Crystal Palace at St James's Park, their performance lacked the virtue of consistency. For the first thirty minutes the City were excellent, and it was during their inspired opening spell that they laid the foundations of victory with goals from Mackay and Durrant.

EXETER CITY: Hoyle Johnstone Clark Gibson Walker Powell Hutchings Smart Durrant Mackay Regan

CRYSTAL PALACE: Bumstead George Wyatt Lewis Mulheron Chilvers Broughton McCormick Kurz Beresford Gaillard

Mackay's opening goal was the outcome of a well planned attack in which the ball travelled from Hoyle to Regan, then to Durrant and finally to Mackay, who, racing ahead, drew Bumstead out, and shot low and slantwise into the far corner of the net. The second goal, less spectacular, was skilfully engineered. A low pass into the goalmouth was lofted by Hutchings to Durrant, whose header from close range flashed into the net at express speed. Two minutes after the interval Kurz reduced Exeter's lead, and after a spell of indifferent play the City pulled themselves together, and Hutchings ran in to score from Mackay's down-the-middle pass.

BATH CITY 3
(McCulloch 3)

CITY RESERVES 2 (Johnston, Owen own goal).

In their Southern League match at Bath on Saturday Exeter were un- lucky to lose by the odd goal in five. Twice they levelled the score, but what proved to be the winning goal for Bath came too close to the end to give them a chance to fight back,

Exeter were one of the smartest sides seen at Bath this season, and it was only the guile of McCulloch, who scored two goals, that beat them. The visiting goalkeeper, Singleton, was in particularly good form, and he could not be blamed for the defeat.

Doughty netted Bath's other goal. Exeter's scorers were Owens, the Bath left-back, who put into his own goal, and Johnson

City team: Singleton; Warren, Rowe; Coles, Davey, Jeffery; Grant, Johnston, Rew, Harrower,
