Saturday, April 16th 1949.
IPSWICH TOWN (Jennings 2) 2
EXETER CITY (Smith, Powell) 2
Half-time Ipswich 2 City 1, attendance 15,000.
Exeter City gained their ninth away point of the season and their first at Ipswich and were good value for their draw. Had they made better use of their early chances they might have won easily.
IPSWICH: Brown(T) Bell Rumbold Perrett Rees Baird Brown (J) Parker (T) Jennings Parker (S) Little
CITY: Hoyle Johnstone Clark Bartholomew Walker Powell Hutchings Smart Smith Mackay Regan
It was against the run of the play when Jennings opened the scoring for Ipswich from Little's corner but Smith quickly equalised. Four minutes from the interval Jennings headed through to regain the home team's lead. Facing the bright sun in the second half Ipswich found it even more troublesome than Exeter had in the first half, but the only visitor to exploit it properly was Powell, who dropped long shots into the goalmouth. One of these went over the goalkeeper's head to score the equaliser a quarter of an hour from the end.

EXETER CITY RESERVES 0
YEOVIL TOWN 2.
Bad finishing was the major cause of the City Reserves' home defeat against Yeovil. The City forwards had far more chances than Yeovil but squandered them all. Coffey ten minutes from the interval and Bryant ten minutes from the finish obtained the goals by which Yeovil won. Hickman and Wright, the latter an ex-Grecian, were Yeovil's best players.
City team:- Singleton; Warren, Rowe; Coles, Cutting, Jeffery; Dymond,
Harrower, Rew, Johnston, Grant.
Attendance 4,455, receipts £187.12s.6d.
