PORT VALE 1 (Martin)
EXETER CITY 0

Half-time Vale 0 City 0
Attendance 12,000.
Port Vale:- R.King; Hamlett, Butler; McGarry, Cheadle, Todd; Allen, Martin, Aveyard, Polk, Hulligan.
Referee:- Mr W.E.Dellow, of Croydon.
City: Singleton; Johnstone, Rowe; Powell, Walker, Greenwood; Hutchings, Harrower, Durrant, Mackay, Smith.

Port Vale were Exeter City's masters at Hanley. Faster and cleverer in the constructive arts, the Valiants enjoyed an undisputed terri torial advantage. Though the goal by which they triumphed was of the doubtful variety any other result would have done them an injustice. The City's failings were the usual brand. The players were too slow to think and too slow to act. The attack was unbalanced because three members of the line were well below standard. The defence had to bear the brunt of an uneven and up hill struggle, and in restricting the Vale's winning margin to a goal scored by Martin 12 minutes after the interval, Singleton especially, and the remainder of his defensive colleagues to a slightly lesser de gree, emerged from this contest with credit.

EXETER CITY RESERVES 3
GUILDFORD CITY 1.

Team:- Hoyle; Warren, Doyle; Fallon, Davey, Squires; Mitchell, Smart, Rew, Roy, McClelland.

The City Reserves led by 2 goals to nil at the interval, both scores being made by Mitchell. The first after half an hour's play was a good shot which deceived the goalkeeper and the second a header following a corner. Rew increased the lead to three in the second half and one minute from the end Bennett scored for Guildford.
