All the West's Soccer clubs made progress in the F.A.Cup (1st round) as the result of good victories. As expected Torquay United won 3-1 at Gravesend thanks to two quick goals in the last 12 minutes. Yeovil Town beat Romford, the Amateur Cup finalists, for the second year in succession at this stage, by 4 goals to 1. Exeter City's 5-3 victory at Millwall, however, was one of the most
surprising results of the day. The London club were unlucky as their goalkeeper, Hinton, was taken to hospital with concussion before the interval and their centre-forward, Constantine, fractured a shoulder later in the game. The referee pleased impartial observers by his handling of the match at New Cross, but not a section of the Millwall supporters, who were resentful of the award of a free-kick which led to the scoring of the City's fourth goal. Spectators attempted to invade the playing pitch when the teams and officials were leaving the field. Missiles were thrown, and Mr Meads left the arena under police protection. Exeter City broke one record and preserved another by winning to-day. They won at Millwall for the first time, and their record of never having lost a Cup match in London still stands.
The order of scoring (Millwall first) was 1-0, 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4 in the first half. Second half:- 2-4, 3-4. 3-5. After Hinton's injury Simmonds was put in goal and later replaced by Forrest. Exeter's outstanding players were Dick Smart, the scorer of three goals, Hoyle, Johnstone, Greenwood, and Harrower.

Millwall 3, Exeter City 5
EXETER CITY broke one record and preserved another when they defeated Millwall by five goals to three in a thrill-packed Cup-tie. The City won at Millwall for the first time. Their record of never having lost a cup match in London still stands.
Saturday's clash had everything. There were spells of clever footbali. The exchanges were always keen. but the two bad accidents which occurred were not due to dirty plav. Ted Hinton, Millwall goalie, was carried off with concussion midway through the first half. The second Millwall blow was delayed until the closing moments when Constantine, the Millwall centre-forward, rushed at Hoyle. charged the goalie fairly. and suffered a fractured shoulder as he rebounded and fell.
Hoyle feil and smothered a low short centre from the right: The ball spun from his glance to the waiting Constantine who ran it into the net.
BRILLIANT EXETER SPELL
Then came a brilliant Exeter spell. Sparkling attacks left the Millwall rearguard floundering, and Smart, the alert opportunist, with a flair for running into the open space, netted twice with close-range efforts.
Simmonds, the first deputy for the Injured Hinton, never moved to a first-time cross-shot with which Regan increased Exeter lead. No goalie could have stopped Smart's header which brought the next goal from Harrower's accurate centre.
From being masters in the first half were reduced to a struggling and, at times, rattled side, after the interval. The defence lost its grip on a depleted Millwall team which fought with magnificent cour- age and the game took an unlooked for turn when Constantine and Brolly scored goals which had Mill- wall's supporters roaring their loudest.
At three-quarter time the City were in danger of having to replay. but the Millwall menace receded in the final phase, and Smith scored again for Exeter

Spectators attempted to invade the pitch when the teams and officials were leaving the field. Missiles were thrown, and Mr. Meade left the field under police protection.
There was a spot of trouble of a different kind at Gravesend. where the s.de of the small grandstand threatened to give way just before their start against Torquay United. Temporary repairs were carried out, and warnings were broadcast to spectators to keep away from the weakened part of the structure.Southern League.
