Match 06
6th September 1950
Swindon Town (a)

GRECIANS DESERVED A POINT AT SWINDON.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH 1950.

Whipped by the wind, which blew at gale force, and with the blinding rain and a greasy ball adding to the atrocious conditions, the City and Swindon players could have been forgiven if they had muddled through the match on the County Ground on Wednesday evening. But contrary to all expectations they rose to the occasion in grand style to provide 9,467 (most of them huddled together in the stands) spectators with the best game seen on the ground this season.

Swindon:- Burton; Hunt, May; Cowie, Hudson, Kaye; Millar, Court, Simner, Peebles, Bain.

Exeter City:- Singleton; Johnstone, Rowe; Fallon, Doyle, Davey; Harrower, Smart, Smith, Lynn, McClelland.

There were thrills in abundance, many excellent moves, and plenty of snap and sparkle with honours shared in a game which could have gone either way, but in which Exeter, although beaten 1-0, could count themselves unfortunate not to obtain one point for their endeavours. Court scored Swindon's winning goal 15 minutes from the end.
