CITY WERE SUPERIOR IN ALL DEPARTMENTS.
THEIR VICTORY AT LEYTON WAS WELL DESERVED.
Saturday, September 9th 1950.
LEYTON ORIENT 1 (Pattison)
EXETER CITY 3 (Smart 2, Smith)
Half-time 1-1.
Attendance 20,000.
Orient: Welton; Evans, Banner; Deverall, Rooney, Brown; Davies, Simmonds, Rees, Blair, Pattison.
City: Singleton; Johnstone, Rowe; Fallon, Doyle, Davey; Harrower, Smart, Smith, Lynn, McClelland.
Until today the Leyton Orient defence had not conceded a goal this season on their own ground. Then Exeter City went to Town to humble a team which boasts two internationals in Rees and Brown, by three goals to one. That triumph was merited, despite the biased commentaries that were printed in most sections of the national Press. Due allowances are made for the disrupting effect which Deverall's injury had upon the Orient team. Deverall, who suffered knee trouble midway through the first half, played on the left wing afterwards. Simmonds shifted from inside right to the half back line, Pattison moving from the wing to inside left, with Blair at inside right. The goalscoring time-table was Pattison (Orient) 32 minutes, Smart 38 minutes and 75 minutes, Smith 87 minutes.

CITY RESERVES 4 DARTFORD 2.
Home supporters could not wish to see four finer goals than the ones scored by Exeter City Reserves against Dartford at St James's Park. The City's new centre forward, Reg Dare, well deserved the round of applause accorded him as he left the field. Dare, born at Blandford, and previously with Southampton, is a player who will add some much needed height and weight to Exeter's forward line and what could be a finer debut than to score two goals in as many minutes? Exeter's other two goals were scored by Short and Greenaway.
Team:- Salter; Warren, Clark; Powell, Carter, Greenwood; Short, Dunlop, Dare, Smyth, Greenaway.
