1912 Morris, Ernie
Biographical Text
Ernie Morris, a full-back from Lancashire, was one of several young professionals who joined the club in the Southern League days before the Great War who never got a game for the first-team.
Joining City in the summer of 1912 at the age of twenty, he was the youngest of that season's crop of new arrivals. With manager Arthur Chadwick using his network of contacts to keep tabs on the most promising players in the North West outside the professional game, attention turned to Ernie who had enjoyed a fine season in the Lancashire Combination with Padiham St John. Featuring on a regular basis for City's reserves during 1912/13, it was a simple case of Ernie being unable to dislodge Jack Fort from the first-team and he left the club after a season.
