Isherwood, a goalkeeper from Bolton Wanderers joined Exeter City ahead of the first season in the Football League in 1920. He failed to make a first-team appearance.

Made some appearances for the reserves in the Western League where he was in direct competition with Reg Loram. Neither was able to dislodge Dick Pym from the first team and, when Pym was injured, City turned instead to Army goalkeeper Charles Warren.
