Match 41
23rd March 1951
Bournemouth v ECFC

Southern League
Yeovil (h)

BOURNEMOUTH v EXETER CITY.

GOOD FRIDAY,

MARCH 23RD 1951.

Bournemouth controlled the game against Exeter City to the extent that they would have won decisively if their finishing had been up to the standard of their approach play. It was not until the 69th minute that they took the lead, through McGibbon, who beat Singleton at the second attempt after striking the post from Stroud's centre. A few minutes earlier Singleton had injured his right arm, going down to the ball at the feet of Cross. He handed over his jersey
to McClelland immediately after Bournemouth had scored. McClelland acquitted himself brilliantly in goal during the final twenty minutes, and his full-length dive to push out shot from a Boxshall was a feature of the game. The City's equalising goal came in the 70th minute from Harrower, who intercepted a pass back to the goalkeeper, and walked the ball into an empty net. Singleton returned to the field at outside right, after receiving treatment from the trainer, and was unlucky not to score a goal.

Result: Bournemouth 1 Exeter City 1.
