Like most teams who have visited St James's Park since the end of last year Newport were quicker thinking and more determined than Exeter City. The Grecians were a goal down until near the interval when Regan neutralised  Beattie's point for Newport. The sequence of scoring was the same in the second half, Parker netting first for Newport and Harrower afterwards for Exeter.
