Match 43
26th March 1951
Bournemouth (h)

Southern League
Bath City (a)

EXETER CITY V BOURNEMOUTH.

EASTER MONDAY,

MARCH 26TH 1951.

No sterner battle has been seen at St James's Park since the war than that between the City and Bournemouth. In a contest bearing no resemblance to the usual Easter Monday struggle between tired and leg-weary teams, the City stayed on grandly to turning seeming defeat into a 2-1 victory with goals from Smith and Hutchings in the final quarter of an hour. Those closing stages were packed with drama, and it was a welcome change to see the City fighting back with such resolution against the vigorous Bournemouth opposition.

Exeter City:- Singleton; Johnstone, Rowe; Fallon, Goddard, Davey; Hutchings, Harrower, Smith, Mackay, Regan.

Bournemouth:- Meadows; Cunningham, Drummond; Woodward, Gripton, Lewis; Stroud, McGibbon, Cheney, Marsh, Boxshall.

Southern League:-

Exeter City Reserves 1.
Two Exeter players, Short and Smart, were ordered off the field near the end of the match at Twerton Park, Bath.

City team:- Salter; Clark, Powell; Dunlop, Carter, Doyle; Short, Smart, Dare, Greenaway, McClelland.
