Beaten by three clear goals; Exeter City nevertheless battled on pluckily when the tide of adversity turned again them at Norwich. Singleton ran up against trouble two minutes after the re-start, when he was kicked on the arm after parrying a vicious cross-shot from Docherty. McClelland, as he has done before this season, went in goal and performed valiantly.

Stanley Charlton, the son of the illustrious City player of the 1920s, was given a trial in the above match. He is in the Army, serving with the Royal Artillery at Woolwich Barracks. Roy Kivell of Clyst Valley, Keith Harvey of Crediton, and Ronald Parsons of Bude, were also included.
