Playing their most aggressive football this season in inspiring an twenty minutes spell after the interval, Exeter City overwhelmed the Walsall half-backs and backs, but only once could the home forwards beat Lewis, who was a brilliant goalkeeper.

Although the City's triumph was restricted to one goal, it victory that was fully deserved, for, in registering their second was a success of the season, the home side had much the better of matters, apart from a strong rally by Walsall in the final fifteen minutes.

Archie Smith earned his colleagues their bonus when, twelve minutes after the restart, he was ideally positioned to head Davey's centre into the net. Even the magnificent Lewis stood by, powerless a onlooker, that time.

CITY RESERVES DOUBLE OVER GRAVESEND.

For the first twenty minutes Exeter City Reserves, who beat Gravesend five two in their Southern League game at Northfleet, never looked like completing the double, but a second half burst that gained them three goals in eight minutes altered the whole complexion of the play. The City's goals were scored by Booth, Fallon (penalty), Hutchings, McGrath, and Hancock.

Gunning and Crowther got the goals for Gravesend, who were defeated. at Exeter in the opening game of the season.
