City Draw at Watford.

THEN LOSE AN EXCITING RACE AGAINST TIME.

After Exeter City had played a drawn game at Vicarage Road v Watford today their 'bus lost an exciting race against time by 30 seconds. The stakes were the 6.30 p.m. home-bound train from Paddington, thus ensuring a reasonably early arrival at St David's.

The bus driver had forty-five minutes in which to attempt the journey from Watford, and the ante-post wagering was "evens." Then the odds lengthened as every traffic light in Kilburn and along Edgware Road flashed red. When the Paddington winning post was reached, the bus unloaded its passengers in record time, all to no avail, for the rear coaches of the train were then disappearing beyond the far end of the platform.

Instead of reaching Exeter at 11 o'clock a very tired football team and officials got home at four a. m. on Sunday morning.

WATFORD 1 EXETER CITY 1.
Saturday, September 29th,
at Vicarage Road.

Attendance 10,029.

The match on the spacious Watford ground was interesting without being a classic. The best football was seen during the opening half but the goals, one to each side, were registered after the interval. Ten minutes remained for play when Smith scrambled the ball into the Watford net to nullify an earlier goal by Collins.

Watford:- Saphin; Harper, Jones; Eggleston, Oliver, Haigh; Cook, Laing, Wilson, Meadows, Collins.

City: Lear; Warren, Clark; Fallon, Goddard, Davey; Regan, Smart, Smith, Mackay, Howells.

Southern League
City Reserves v Cheltenham

Cheltenham Town swamped the City Reserves by five goals to two in a Southern League match at St James's Park. Exeter's goalscorers were McGrath and Booth, the latter from a penalty.

City Reserves: - Salter; Reid, Charlton; Doyle, Carter, Coley; McGrath, Seager, Mitchell, Booth, Digby.

City Reserves v Tonbridge
Good Recovery by the Reserves

BOTH POINTS EARNED IN FIGHTING SECOND HALF RALLY.

A fighting rally by the City Reserves in the second half of their Southern League match at St James's Park against Tonbridge enabled them to beat the more polished, experienced visiting side by 2 goals to 1, on Wednesday evening.

The pitch was heavy and sticky, and for much of the game both elevens found the conditions very trying.

Tonbridge adapted themselves better in the early stages, and with a lead of one goal to nil at half-time looked to be well on the road to victory.

CITY RESERVES 2 TONBRIDGE 1.

Wednesday, October 3rd,
at St James's Park.

Attendance 2,000.

City Reserves:- Singleton; Johnstone, Rowe; Coley, Carter, Doyle; Digby, Seager, Mitchell, Booth, Howells.

Tonbridge: Hankey; Pounder, Bell; Ross, Woodward, Fleming; Stevens, Saward, Higgins, Mulheron, Suttle.

Playing the faster and more direct football, Tonbridge kept the ball moving from man to man. The City defenders were time after time left slithering about in the mud in unsuccessful efforts to cope with the Tonbridge wingers.

It came as no surprise when Mulheron nodded the ball into the net to put his side one goal up.

The Reserves made strong attempts to draw level just before the change of ends, Hankey having to save from Mitchell, Doyle, and Johnstone. After the interval Tonbridge lost some of their teamwork, and they did pierce the City defence their shooting was off the target. The City pressed hard and Howells equalised with a splendid long-range shot that gave Hankey no chance.

Not long afterwards Booth scored the winning goal following a free kick. Howells put across a grand centre and Booth headed beautifully into the net.
