EXETER GAIN A POINT FROM BRISTOL CITY.
DEFENCE FIRM AT CRITICAL STAGE.

A crowd of more than seventeen thousand welcomed the teams at Ashton Gate, Bristol, in fine but dull weather, and the assembly included a good number of Exonians. Scrambling exchanges at the start of the game ended dramatically when Bristol broke away to take the lead with a simple goal, three minutes after the start.

The City almost conceded another goal fifteen minutes before the half time interval when Warren headed the ball over his own crossbar, with Lear out of position. The resultant corner was cleared, however. Five minutes later Exeter were on level terms, an accurate cross from the right wing being headed into the Bristol net by Mackay.

BRISTOL CITY 1 EXETER CITY 1.

Saturday, October 13th,
at Ashton Gate.

Attendance 17,349.

Bristol had numerous chances in the second half but their forwards were goal-shy. Atyeo was closely watched by Goddard, who gave a very sound. display in the Exeter defence.

Behind him Graham Lear was also outstanding. Exeter displayed the more liveliness in attack and firm resolution in defence, yet were a shade fortunate to come away with a point.. Smith was subdued but Regan and McClelland were always dangerous. At the same time, Bristol should have won with the chances they had.
