Dartford (a)
ECFC 2-2 Southend United
Scorers: Mackay, Smith

EXETER CITY v SOUTHEND DRAWN, TWO GOALS EACH.
MUCH IMPROVED FORM SHOWN BY THE GRECIANS.
Although the rain cleared before the start of the match to-day, there were fewer than five thousand spectators when the teams lined up at St James's Park.
The City had a claim for a penalty turned down by the referee after a quarter of an hour's play when Smith was unceremoniously bundled over in the area, but twenty minutes later a movement started by Davey and carried on by Smith was successfully finished off by Mackay, his hard,
low shot from 20 yards' range finding the net. Midway through the second half a shot from Mackay was partially saved by Scannell, and Smith ran in to drive the rebound into an empty net. Southend were not beaten, however, and continuing to play a fast and clever game scored twice through Wakefield to earn themselves a well merited draw.

Although the City failed to hold the advantage of a two goals lead, this was the best match seen at St James's Park this season. Exeter, whose form was much improved, were a more determined team than they have been in recent games, although they failed to match Southend in football craft.
