Attendance 7,836, receipts £570. 138. 3d.
City:
Singleton; Walton, Kirkman; Booth, Goddard, Davey; Digby, Mackay, Howells, Brown, Regan.
Bournemouth:-
Bird; Cunningham, Drummond; Woodward, Gripton, Casey;
Buchanan, Eyre, Cross, Gaynor, Girling.
Referee:- Mr W.T.Elliott of Swindon. Linesmen: Messrs F.J.Toms and R.E.Smith.
A draw was a fitting result of a hard game in which both sides missed scoring chances, the greater number of these falling to Exeter. Bournemouth, who were well served by Woodward and Casey, played better and more methodical football, but Exeter were quicker on the ball and more thrustful.
Walton, Goddard, and Kirkman were Exeter's best players, while Howells
deserves credit for his persistence. Cross gave Bournemouth the lead a minute before the interval, placing a left-foot shot just inside the post.
Midway through the second half Exeter equalised in an unexpected way, when a shot from Regan was saved by Bird, who was then charged into by Howells. Despite protests, Mr Elliott ruled that the goalkeeper had been bundled over the line whilst holding the ball. Gaynor later scored for Bournemouth and Mackay for the City.
