CITY RAISE THE SIEGE AND BEAT THE LIONS.

TOP OF THE TABLE SIDE AT ST JAMES'S PARK.

Saturday, September 20th 1952.
EXETER CITY (Rose) 1 MILLWALL 0.

Half-time 0 - 0.

Top-of-the-table Millwall were a big attraction at St James's Park to day, and the early rush of customers indicated another big crowd. Ken Rose, signed from Chesterfield last June, led the City attack in place of Dailey, who is injured, and he celebrated his inclusion by shooting the winning goal 13 minutes from the end.

City: Kelly; Anderson, Rowe; Booth, Goddard, Davey; Mitchell, Knight, Rose, Murphy, Mackay.

Millwall:- Finlayson; Jardine, Fisher; Short, Bowler, White; Johnson, Stobart, Monkhouse, Morgan, Hodgetts.

Referee: Mr G.W. Thorpe of Swindon. Linesmen: Messrs R.C.Bryant and W.H.Davey.

For the narrow victory, however, Exeter City were greatly indebted to a sturdy defence in which Goddard, Davey, Rowe, and Kelly were the stars. But the best player on the field was Short, the former Leeds United half-back, of Millwall.

Attendance 14,620, receipts £1,153. 19s. 9d.
