Saturday, November 8th 1952.
SOUTHEND UNITED (Marsden)
EXETER CITY (Dailey)
Half-time 1 - 1.
Southend: Morton; Loughran, Anderson; Burns, Sheard, Lawler; Sibley, McAlinden, Marsden, Wakefield, Thompson.
City:- Kelly; Walton, Rowe; Booth, Goddard, Davey; McClelland, Mackay, Dailey, Murphy, Regan. Referee: Mr E.S.Vickery of Bristol.
Considering that Ray Goddard was a crippled passenger for most of the game following his injury in the eighth minute when he was laid out in a last-ditch but unsuccessful attempt to stop Southend scoring and that Fred Davey, who developed a heavy cold overnight, was not fully fit, Exeter City did well to hold the strong Southend eleven to a division of the points. None did better than Davey in this hard encounter. He played under a big handicap, but was so effective when he took over the centre half position from Goddard that the absence of Exeter's skipper was barely noticeable. Exeter played with ten men following Goddard's retirement until just before the interval, when he returned to hobble on the left wing. Another reshuffle saw Goddard at centre forward with Dailey occupying the wing position, and it was from there that Dailey scored Exeter's goal with a hard right-footed shot to the top corner of the net.

City "A" v. Clyst Valley
Clyst Valley, at Countess Wear, started without their right-back. C.Collingwood. City "A's" regular inside-left L. captain, Tancock, was replaced by Chapman at left-half.
Both teams opened warily, sizing each other up. The Valley moved like a well-olied machine, and after ten minutes' play YEO (centre forward) scored when he took a perfect pass from left-winger Causley. Then the City "A" began to press, and WENSLEY. centre-forward, made. several scoring attempts before scoring from a pass from inside right Caines. YEO again took a good pass from Causley and put the Valley ahead. City "A" were attacking, and Caines had bad luck in front of goal.
Half time:
EXETER CITY "A" 1-2 CLYST VALLEY
In the second half DART and CAINES (2) scored for Exeter City "A." and YEO added for Clyst Valley.
Result:
EXETER CITY "A". 4-3 CLYST VALLEY
