McCUE GETS GOAL ON FIRST APPEARANCE

Exeter Defence Spreadeagled

Making his first appearance, with Shrewsbury, McCue put his side in front. He shot past the advancing Kelly when the Exeter defence was spreadeagled.
Early Candlin blocked a shot from Samuels in an Exeter raid. After eight minutes the Exeter goal had a narrow escape when Johnston crossed the ball to McCue and Kelly had to dive at his feet to smother a shot. Daily, the Exeter centre forward a found Parr a stumbling block when he tried to force his way through. McBride, the Shrewsbury goal keeper, was slightly injured when running out to save from Dodgin, but was able to resume after atten tion. McBride ran out to intercept a good centre by McClelland, the Exeter  right-winger, who was a most troublesome home attacker. Kelly saved a long shot from Crutchley in a Shrewsbury counter attack. Kelly had to run out to snatch the ball from McCue's feet after a pass by Bullion. Kelly was alert in saving a dropping shot rom McCue in another Shrewsbury foray. From a corner kick by Parker. Dodgin shot over. Following good work by McClelland, Parker hit the Shrewsbury side netting with a hard shot.
