BRISTOL CITY v EXETER CITY
League 3rd Division South.
Tuesday, September 15th 1953.
Ashton Gate, Bristol.
Any team whose inside forwards allow the opposing wing halfbacks to come through with the ball invites and gets trouble, Exeter City made a freewill offering of the bonus to Bristol City, A major cause of the heavy defeat was Murphy in particular and Mackay to a lesser degree neglected to fetch and carry, Exeter were submerged in a flood of second half scoring. The visiting defence withstood a constant battering before the interval but the strain was too great afterwards for a rearguard disorganised through a head injury to Goddard who moved to outside left, he did in fact score City's only goal, he also shot against the crossbar and headed the rebound inches wide,
While the first half was goalless, Exeter's defence was under constant threat against the superior strength, speed and teamwork of Bristol City, In the second half the home side tore City to pieces, former City favorite Regan scored the first and fifth goals whilst Rodgers also scored two and Micklewright one, A bad night for Exeter, despite the injury to Goddard they were a side with too many weaknesses, Donaldson was always a trier and showed that with reasonable support he will be a useful acquisition,

PLAYERS COULDN'T PLAY
Trinidad footballers, touring Britain, were guests at a sportsmen's ball at the Queen's Hall, Barnstaple, last week. Gracie Cole and her orchestra supplied the music, and the vocalist was Ronnie Vaughan. The team were to have sung calypsos; it was explained, however, that their instruments had been left at Exeter.
