Alex Fisher was born in London and educated at Abingdon School, he joined Oxford United at the age of seven. At the age 16 whilst still at school he was called up to the first team by manager Jim Smith.

Alex scored his first senior league goal in January 2008 at 17 years old in a 4–0 home wiin against Altrincham.

He joined non league Brackley Town, in 2008, on loan scoring three goals in five starts.

Another loan to local side Oxford City in early 2009, signalled the end of his career at the Kassam Satdium, however he still netted 12 goals in 16 starts.

He then joined the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Jerez, Spain.
Through the academy, in the 2010–11 season, he signed for Jerez Industrial scoring on his debut at the Chapin Stadium. However, a serious break of his jaw during a game against Los Palacios prematurely ended his season, in which he had already scored 21 goals in all competitions, 17 of which in the league.

He then played for Belgian Second Division side KVK Tienen, having signed a contract to the end of the 2011–12 season, playing 7 games and scoring once.

After his contract had expired at KVK Tienen, Fisher signed for another Belgian club, K.R.C. Mechelen, where he scored 7 times in 27 games.

In July 2013, Alex Fisher signed for K.S.K. Heist in the Belgian Second Division, where he played twice, failing to score. After only six weeks with KSK Heist, Alex had impressed and transferred to Italian Lega Pro side A.C. Monza Brianza, where he scored twice in 14 starts.

In June 2014, he joined Mansfield Town, scoring once in 14 starts. He was released by Mansfield at the end of the 2014–15 season.

In August 2015, Alex signed for Torquay United after spending the summer on trial at Exeter City. He played in the pre-season tour of Scotland for the Grecians, however he was not signed and he went on to  score 5 times in 21 starts for the Gulls.

He left Torquay via mutual consent, signing for Inverness Caledonian Thistlle in January 2016, where he made a further 22 apperances scoring 8 goals.

He moved to Motherwell in June 2017, where he played 11 more games but did not score.

Alex signed for Yeovil Town in January 2018, following his release from Motherwell. At the end of the 2018–19 season, Fisher was released by Yeovil following the club's relegation from the Football League. He had played 57 times for Yeovil scoring 13 goals

Alex Fisher joined Exeter City in June 2019, from Yeovil Town.

He made his first team debut against Coventry City in the League Cup on August 13th 2019, by the end of the season he had made 16 league apperances scoring once.

In May 2021, the club said the following after he was released.

"Alex Fisher’s time at the Grecians will surely be remembered for the stunning late equaliser at Southend, which is in contention for our goal of the season, and his finish against Grimsby Town just two weeks ago. Leaving with 46 showings in red and white, Fisher has had opportunities limited this season, but stayed at the club determined to fight for a place in Taylor’s squad.

“At the start of the season we made it clear to Alex that he was behind the likes of Ben Seymour, so he fell down the pecking order. He contributed at times but those moments weren’t enough and didn’t quite get that consistency in his game. He can finish on his day and he’s the kind of player you’d want the ball to drop to in the box, but sadly that wasn’t quite enough for us over the two year period.”

In August 2021, Alex signed for Newport County on a one year contract.
