Alex Fisher, a striker, played two seasons for Exeter City immediately before, and during, the COVD-19 pandemic. Most of his league appearances were as a substitute before he left for Newport County at the end of his contract. He joined City four years after featuring as a pre-season triallist.
Alex was born in London and educated at Abingdon School in Oxfordshire playing in the Oxford United academy system from the age of seven. He made his Oxford United first-team debut in October 2007 and played in fourteen league games before his release in May 2009. He also had loan spells at Brackley Town and Oxford City. After his release Alex joined the academy in Spain that Glenn Hoddle had established to give young footballers a second chance. Through this academy Alex appeared for Jerez Industrial CF later moving to Belgium to play in turn for Tienen, Mechelen and Heist. In September 2013 Alex signed for Italian club AC Monza and from there he moved back to England to play for Mansfield Town in 2014.
After a single season in Nottinghamshire, Alex was released in May 2015 and joined Exeter City for a trial appearing in several pre-season games in Scotland. Without being offered a contract by Exeter Alex signed for Torquay United in the National League but, after five months, left by mutual agreement and was to soon sign for Inverness Caledonian Thistle moving on to Motherwell in June 2017 and Yeovil Town in January 2018. Alex was to make his Yeovil debut against Manchester United in the FA Cup but, after scoring 13 goals in 57 league appearances, he was released in May 2019 following Yeovil’s relegation from the Football League.
It was at this point that Alex arrived at St James Park making his debut against Coventry City in the League Cup on August 13 2019. He scored three goals before the outbreak of COVID-19, one in the league and two in FA Cup ties against Cambridge United and went on to play against Northampton Town in the play-off final in June 2020. Alex was then to play eighteen league games in his second season, and two in the EFL Trophy, scoring twice more.
In August 2021 Alex signed for Newport County on a one-year contract before, a year later, rejoining Yeovil Town where he was a regular during the 2022/23 National League campaign (which ended in relegation) until suffering a serious injury towards the end of the season. Out of action until the autumn, Alex signed for Oxford City on loan in January 2024 before returning to Yeovil and announcing his departure from the club in April 2024 having helped the Glovers win promotion at the first attempt. He later signed for Bath City on the eve of the 2024/25 season.
