Biographical Text
Folorunzo 'Foley' Okenla, who had played for Nigeria in an African Cup of Nations final, was a trialist in new manager Alan Ball's first match at Tiverton in 1991. After a few games for Birmingham, he played in Belgium and Canada.
With nineteen Nigerian caps to his name, including a losing final to Cameroon in the 1988 African Cup of Nations, he had arrived as a 24-year-old at Burnley where he failed to register a first-team appearance. Seeking a contract elsewhere he reportedly turned down a trial with Beşiktaş to try his luck with Exeter City.
Unable to secure a deal with the Grecians, he ironically played a handful of games for City's former manager Terry Cooper in the colours of Birmingham City before later playing for Belgian Second Division for K.V. Turnhout, and in the American Professional Soccer League for Montreal Impact.
