Ian Belford, who had won representative honours for Jamaica, played for the Grecians in a pre-season friendly against Wimbledon in July 2000.

As Noel Blake continued his hunt for new players in advance of the 2000/01 campaign, Ian spent a few weeks at St James' Park to no avail.

Having appeared for Jamaica in Olympic Games qualifiers, he won a scholarship to William Carey College in Mississippi where he was selected for National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics soocer honours. With his education complete, he later played for Constant Springs in the Jamaican Premier League.
