Tony Ridley appeared in first-team pictures in 1974/75 so was probably an apprentice.
From South Devon, he played for City in the FA Youth Cup and for the reserves in the South Western League as well as with mainly amateur players in youth league fixtures.
He continued to play in the South Devon League after leaving St James' Park.
