PAUL SMYTHE, one of Exeter City's four apprentice professionals, is poised for "promotion."

The 17-year-old full-back finishes his apprenticeship in October 1978 when he will be offered a professional contract.

Manager Bobby Saxton says: "The lad has done quite well. He has plenty to learn, but he is im proving and has good assets. "We will offer him a contract. and if he wants to work hard, listen and learn, he has a chance."

Paul played for the reserves and youth team at Exeter City.
