Exeter beat Birmingham City to sign Byron who felt he had a better chance of making the grade with City.

Byron was described as “a skilful ball player and Exeter had high hopes of him. He was one of five apprentices.

He played a large number of games for Exeter City reserves in the London Midweek League and for the youth team in the Western Counties Floodlit league.
