Biographical Text
First-year youth-team player Chris Wright made a solitary first-team appearance for Exeter City in a Conference Cup fixture in 2005. Plymouth-based he went on to have a long career in South West non-league football.
Chris, a striker, scored regularly for Exeter City's reserve and youth teams from 2004 to 2007. Having made a strong impression in FA Youth Cup games in 2024/05 when he scored ten times - including three against Witney Town and four against Weston-super-Mare - he was called up to play for the first-team to face Aldershot Town in the Conference Cup in February 2005.
Scoring prolifically during his time as a trainee, Chris was awarded a professional contract by City in 2006 and from January 2007 spent a spell on loan with Conference South side Yeading where he made ten starts and scored twice. Returning to St James' Park, Chris couldn’t break into the first team and left the club in May 2007.
After City, Chris was at Saltash United before moving to Plymouth Parkway where he scored 39 goals in his first season and was the Peninsula League’s top scorer .
From Parkway Chris moved to Buckland Athletic and on to Tiverton Town where he made relatively little impact after catching the eye playing for Buckland against Tivvy in the Devon St Luke’s Bowl final.
He then returned for another good spell at Parkway and later moved on to Saltash before playing for other clubs in the Plymouth area. Having played for Mount Gould in the Devon Football League in 2022/23, and now in his mid-thirties, Chris was part of the Ivybridge Town side that won Peninsula (East) in 2024 and finished in mid-table in the Western Premier in 2024/25.
