Peter Ellis, who made nearly 250 Football League appearances for Portsmouth, had a trial with Exeter City ahead of the 1984/85 season. Unable to strike a deal he signed for Southend.
Making his first league appearance for his hometown club in 1973/74, Peter made 246 league appearances over the next decade before his release from Fratton Park in May 1984.
Seeking to stay in the professional game, he was unable to agree terms with City but did sign for Southend United where he made a dozen league appearances before returning to Hampshire to play for Havant Town.
