Steve Guinan was on trial at the start of the 2001/02 season and played for City in a reserve game against Yeovil, where he scored once in a 3-2 defeat.

He started his career as a trainee at Nottingham Forest and played as a striker for Forest, Greensboro Dynamo, Darlington, Burnley, Crewe, Halifax, Plymouth Argyle, Scunthorpe, Cambridge United, Shrewsbury Town,Hereford United, Cheltenham, Northampton, Forets Green Rovers and Kidderminster Harriers. He made over 400 apperances in total scoring over 100 goals. 
Steve also played for England C (The England National X1) scoring 3 times in 4 appearances in 2004.
