Biographical Text

Striker Malcolm Filby played on trial at Exeter City in 1979. Formerly with Leyton Orient, he also played in South Africa and North America.

A youth player with West Ham on leaving school in 1968, he was later on the books of Leyton Orient before playing in South Africa with Durban City between 1972 and 1975. 

Subsequently appearing in Portugal with lower-division club Lusitano, the 26-year-old was seeking a contract in England when he arrived at Exeter in 1979. 

With City deciding against retaining his services, Malcolm moved on to Wealdstone ahead of joining Sacramento Gold in California along with his brother Ian Filby (Leyton Orient, Brentford and St Mirren).

He also played indoor soccer for a number of clubs in America.
