Malcolm Filby
Malcolm Filby was a striker who played on trial at Exeter City in 1979.
He was a youth player at West Ham United in 1968/69 and later joined Leyton Orient as a youth player from 1971 to 1973.
He may have moved to play in South Africa for Durban City.
Had a brief trial at Exeter and then moved to play in North America for Sacramento Gold, with his brother Ian. Mal Filby was expected to be the team’s key threat but suffered a season-ending injury in the home opener.
He played during the 1980 season for San Jose Earthquakes, Detroit Express and Atlanta Chiefs, where he scored 9 goals in 22 games.
