David Newcombe appeared for City's reserves as a sixth-former between 1973 and 1975; firstly in the Western League and then in the South Western League when City's second-string switched competitions in 1974. 

Later studying at St Luke's College, he played for the 'firsts' in the Western League and for the 'seconds' in the South Westrn League.
