Biographical Text
Harry Geary played as a left-back for Exeter City reserves in the Southern League during the 1922/23 and 1923/24 seasons. He also turned out for Heavitree United and was involved in local cricket.
Harry was predominantly known for his association with Heavitree United where he was secretary at the time of his early death from pneumonia at the age of thirty in 1933. He had also been associated with Topsham St Margarets and, in 1930, helped with the merger of the East Devon and Exeter Victory leagues to become the Exeter and District League. The present Devon and Exeter League's Geary Cup, named in Harry's honour, dates from 1935.
During his time with Heavitree, Harry formed a full-back partnership with Wilf Lowton who went on to play for Exeter City before a successful career with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
In cricket he was on the committee of the Heavitree during a period when the club won several league and cup titles.

In 1935 a competition for the Geary Cup took place for the first time in memory of Harry. St Mark's won this - I have a small trophey and medal awarded to my grandfather. Although he didn't play in the final as it took place the day after he got married, his brother-in-law (my g-uncle) did.
