In 1955/56, Brian was playing for the Grecian's A team in the Exeter and District League.

Brian made his debut as a half-back against Tonbridge at Tonbridge in a Southern League fixture on the 15th of October 1955. 

He was an amateur who played a number of games at full-back for the A team in 1956/57 when he was off-duty from the City Police, he continued to play for the reserves until the summer of 1959.
