Biographical Text

Howard Madley, who attended school in Pontypridd at the same time as singer Tom Jones, played for Exeter City's reserves during the mid-1950s before making over 400 appearances for Worcester City.

One of a number of players joining Exeter City from Pontypridd in the 1950s, he had a brief spell with the Grecians in the second-half of the 1956/57 season when he played a number of games for the reserves in the Southern League

He then attempted to win professional contracts with Bristol Rovers, Cardiff City and Newport County before joining Worcester City where he made 414 first-team appearances and was a member of the side that won promotion to the top flight of the Southern League in 1968 and finished 5th the next season..

Howard left Worcester City in 1970 to join Merthyr Tydfil where he also won promotion.

He died in Caerphilly in October 2011.
