Biographical Text
After suffering a series of injuries, Hung Dang arrived at Exeter City from Tottenham Hotspur partway way through his time as a trainee at White Hart Lane. He had come to attention when still at school after winning a 'soccer skills' competition at Old Trafford before scoring twice in an under-16 international at Wembley.
Moving from Vietnam to Britain as a child, his family settled in Taunton where he proved to be talented in a range of sports. Winning a 'Bobby Charlton Soccer Skills' competition at Old Trafford, he caught the eye of Spurs who signed him as an associate schoolboy and sponsored him to attend the FA National School of Excellence at Lilleshall. This placed him in the spotlight when it came to selection for England age-group teams and, in August 1988 as a curtain-raiser for the Football League's centenary match, he scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Denmark.
Unfortunately once he arrived at Spurs to start his two-year traineeship, he suffered a series of injuries and - with homesickness now arising through his lack of progress - an agtreement was made for him to leave Spurs early in his second year and complete the remaining 34 weeks with Exeter City close to his Taunton home.
Although he had a good scoring record for City's youth team against relatively weak opposition, he left the club ahead of the 1991/92 to sign for Chard Town followed by spells at Poole Town, Yeovil Town, Bridport and Salisbury before retiring from the cumulative effect of the injuries he had suffered through his career.
Playing local football from time to time, he continued to live in the Taunton area.
