John Copp, a Devonport Dockyard apprentice, joined Exeter City as a seventeen-year-old amateur in 1965 after being scouted playing for Portals Athletic in the Devon Senior Cup final. A winger, he appeared for City's reserves in 1965/66 and 1966/67.
