A former Leyton Orient appremtice, Haka Hayrettin had a trial with Exeter City in 1990/91. He later appeared in the Football League with a number of clubs including Torquay United on loan.

After leaving Leyton Orient, he joined Barnet followed by Turkish club Karşıyaka but soon discovered his Turkish parentage made him eligible for national service. Returning to London, he headed to St James' Park for a trial but, when that proved unsuccessful, he rejoined then-non league Barnet.

With Barnet soon promoted to the Football League, he had a short loan spell at Torquay United before moving on to Wycombe Wanderers, Cambridge United, Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough United.

Playing in non-league until 2003, he then went into management with clubs such as Thurrock, Grays Athletic, Braintree Town, Maidstone United and Dulwich Hamlet.
