Biographical Text
Tony Evans had scored 87 times in a 244-game Football League career, most notably with Cardiff City, when he joined Exeter City for pre-season training in July 1985. Not agreeing a deal with the Grecians, he briefly played for Swindon Town.
Joining Blackpool from Formby, he made his league debut in 1974/75 and made just six appearances for the Tangerines before netting 47 times in 124 league appearances for Cardiff City between 1975 and 1979. He then enjoyed high-profile moves to Birmingham City (where he scored on 28 occasions in the league), Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
With time running out on his time at Molineux, he played a handful of games on loan at Bolton before his release at the age of thirty-one in May 1985. Seeking to remain in the professional game, he appeared for Exeter City in a number of pre-season games ahead of the 1985/86 but did not sign for the Grecians and subsequently joined Swindon Town.
Playing most of his ten league games for the Wiltshire club in the opening weeks of the season, he later played for Stafford Rangers prior to becoming a social worker.
