David Brown came from Exeter, and had been an apprentice at Bristol City.

He made his debut for the Grecians in the Reserves in the South Western League against Bugle on the 17th August 1974.

He also appeared for City in the Devon and Exeter and South West and Wales Youth Leagues.

After leaving Exeter City, he played for Barnstaple.
