Biographical Text

John Polston was in his final year of school when he had a trial with Exeter City early in the 1983/84 season. Picking up an injury with the Grecians, he had successful trial with Tottenham Hotspur before he could return to St James' Park. After twenty-odd league games for Spurs, he amassed over two hundred appearances for Norwich City.

Set to leave school in 1984, he arrived in the summer holidays before the start of his final year at school and had made a good impression before picking up an injury in a trial match. With Spurs also showing an interest, he opted for an apprenticeship at White Hart Lane where he went on to make 24 league appearances including one alongside his brother Andy.

Moving to Norwich City in 1990, he enjoyed 215 league outings during an eight-year stay and was part of the team that finished third in the Premier League in 1992/93 and qualified for Europe.

John finished his career with Reading where he made 18 league appearances and later coached in the academy.
