Older brother of Nicky Marker (Exeter City, Plymouth Argyle and Blackburn Rovers), Robin Marker played for Exeter City on a non-contract/amateur basis between 1981 and 1983.

From Budleigh Salterton, and aged eighteen at the time of his arrival at St James' Park, he played for the 'A' team in the Devon and Exeter League and, on occasions, for the reserves in the midweek league.
