Fred Paddon, from Willeys, appeared in the public trial at St James' Park on 2 September 1905. He did not appear in the league for the first-team, however he played for Exeter City Second X1 and Willeys throughout 1905/06. 

In July 1906, the Western Times reported 

"The report circulated in Exeter last evening that Mr. Fred Paddon a young cyclist and footballer well known in local circles, had died in the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital following upon an operation for appendicitis, was incorrect. Paddon made distinct progress yesterday, and on inquiry at the Institution last night our representative was told his condition was much better than at mid-day."
