Biographical Text

Gavin was a trainee at Exeter between 1997 and 1999 before playing for Shrewsbury Town in the Football League, managing Telford United and steering Brackley Town to promotion to the National League.

Captaining Braintree at an early age, and attracting the attention of professional clubs, he joined Canvey Island in 2002 as the Essex club was bidding for a place in the Conference where it would eventually play alongside Exeter City. After promotion he didn't always feature in the club's first season at the fifth-tier but, after a loan spell with Nuneaton Borough, soon found himself in the Football League where he made 24 league appearances for Shrewsbury Town in a three-year stay.

Having a loan stint for Kidderminster Harriers along the way he returned to Essex - and the Conference - with Grays Athletic ahead of a period in the Midlands with Nuneaton Borough and Telford United. By now a coach with a degree in sports science, he subsequently played for Fleetwood, Gainsborough Trinity, Nuneaton Town (successor club to Nuneaton Borough) and Solihull before a return to Telford United in 2016 where he was manager between 2018 and 2021.

After a period away from football management, he took over at Brackley Town in May 2023 and after losing in the play-offs in 2024 steered the Northamptonshire club to promotion to the National League in 2025.
