25-year-old goalkeeper Chris Mackenzie had just left Leyton Orient when he appeared for Exeter City in a friendly against Portsmouth in July 1999. Eventually signing for Nuneaton, he later returned to the Football League with Chester and Shrewsbury
Starting with Corby Town, he had enjoyed three seasons with Hereford United before spending the 1998/99 season playing for Leyton Orient.
Without a club in the simmmer of 1999, he was briefly at St James' Park but, with City opting for Stuart Naylor, soon dropped into non-league with Nuneaton Borough. Moving on to Telford United, he then returned to the Football League with Chester and Shrewsbury before a series of moves that saw him spending several seasons with Hinckley United and finishing his career back at Corby Town.
