Biographical Text

Paul Abrahams had appeared in the Football League with Brentford, but mostly with Colchester United, when he appeared as a trialist for Exeter City against Brechin City in 1999.

Paul initially played for Colchester United, his local club, between 1992 and 1995 when he netted eight times from 55 league outings. He then switched to Brentford for £30,000 where he played less-often before, after an earlier loan spell back at Layer Road, returning to Colchester in 1996 for £20,000.

Finding better form in Essex, he went on to score a further sixteen goals from 81 league appearances through to the end of 1998/99 when he left Colchester for a second time after sustaining a knee injury.

Taking the plunge to head to Devon, and possibly not at his best, Phil’s stay with the Grecians was short-lived and he prolonged his career on generally familiar turf with Canvey Island, Chesham United, Wivenhoe Town, Heybridge Swifts, Hemel Hempstead Town, AFC Sudbury and Halstead Town before retiring through injury in 2010.
