Francis Ford had appeared in the Football League for Cardiff City when he registered on a non-contract basis for Exeter City in April 1987. He later played in Welsh semi-professional football.

A right-back, he appeared twice for Cardiff City in the Football League during the 1984/85 season having been a trainee with the club. Ironically playing for the reserves against Cardiff City during his time with Exeter City, a longer-term deal wasn’t forthcoming and he went on to appear for Briton Ferry Athletic, Newport County, Cwmbran Town, Barry Town, Inter Cardiff, Llanelli and Bridgend Town.

He later managed Bryntirion Athletic and its’ successor club Penybont.
