Biographical Text

Peter Davis, a goalkeeper from Plymouth, was an Exeter City apprentice during the 1965/66 season. He later bacame a well-known Westcountry referee.

Having initially been a schoolboy with Plymouth Argyle, he was signed on apprenticeship forms through until November 1966 but actually left at the start of 1966/67 so as to have a better chance of finding a club for the new season. Still aged seventeen, he was expected to join Barnstaple Town. 

Although little is known of Peter’s playing career, he later became a referee at a good level of football and ran the line in the Football League.

His brother Richard played for Plymouth Argyle,
Southampton, Bristol City and Barrow before playing and managing Falmouth Town in the 1970s and 1980s.

Peter died in September 2020.
