Jeff Hull, a schoolboy played for the A team throughout 1981/82, he scored a number of goals and his first came in September against Friernhay in Exeter and Devon Youth League.
On signing the Express and Echo wrote,

"City have snatched yet another promising young player from under the noses of a First Division club. Jeff Hull, a 15-year-old striker from Shropshire, has signed associate schoolboy forms for Exeter despite competition for his services from Wolves. 

Wolves had invited him to train twice a week with them, but after coming to Exeter with his parents last weekend and playing in a trial game on Sunday, he decided that his future lay at St. James's Park."
