Arthur Welsby played for Exeter City between 1932 and 1934. He joined the club from Sunderland and later played for Stockport County. He was a member of the team that finished as runners up in Division Three (South) in 1932/33.Playing local football in Lancashire for Ashton St Mary’s, he got his Football League chance with Wigan Borough in 1923 where he was a big success staying until the end of the 1930/31 season making 218 league appearances and scoring 31 goals. He moved to Sunderland in the summer of 1931, but was to only feature 3 times scoring once.
Exeter City was Arthur's next port of call in the summer of 1932 and he made a goalscoring debut in a 2-0 home win over Bristol City in August 1932.
